About Us
Members of Rapua te Hikurangi are a collective of whānau who descend from Nanny Hinewai Lorraine Thomas and Grandfather Leonard Norman Hansen.
From these two ancestors, we share Māori geneology from Ngāti Raukawa ki te Tonga (of Ngāti Hapahapai hapū o Ngāti Huia ki Poroutāwhao), Waitaha, Ngāti Mamoe, Ngāi Tahu, Ngāti Kurī, and Ngāti Tama, as well as Pākehā genealogy consisting of Norweigan, Australian, Scottish, and English.
Rapua te Hikurangi enables members to realise their genealogical identity through research, whakapapa, and historical stories.
We are providing our future generations with the motivation to continue the legacy left behind by their forefathers, Māori and Pākehā.
“He tangata momoe, he tangata māngere, e kore e whiwhi ki te taonga.”
“A sleepy-headed, lazy fellow will never possess riches.”
We consider this to be a source of knowledge for our people to call on should they ever need it.
Hūtia te rito o te harakeke, kei hea te kōmako e kō?
Ko te whakapapa te rito o te tangata.
If you pluck out the centre shoot of the flax, where will the bellbird sing?
One's ancestry is the source of all identity.
