A few weeks ago, I started a weekly class for my kids centered around fitness, sports-specific skills, business, and financial literacy. Here’s a quick look at what we’ve covered so far.
I’ve been fortunate to experience some success in both business and sports, and one of my biggest priorities now is passing those lessons on to my kids. Growing up, I didn’t have access to this kind of guidance or education — so this is all about giving them the head start I never had.
We cover a range of areas: sports-specific skills like wrestling, striking, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, netball, and running, as well as business fundamentals, financial literacy, influential language, sales, and presentation skills.
We’re only four weeks in, but the growth has already been incredible. Watching them absorb, apply, and improve week after week has been deeply rewarding — and I’ve genuinely loved stepping into the role of teacher and mentor. From time to time, we will bring in other experts in their fields to help move things along using different voices and delivery methods.
Week 1: Grappling - closed guard passes
Week 2: BJJ - basic submissions
Week 3: Striking footwork and BJJ basics
Week 4: Business - the difference between shareholders and operators, and how dividends are paid.
Te Ranga Ihupuku speaks to those few who, though they may be inexperienced, carry a deep hunger to grow, to push forward, and to learn. It’s a name that honours the spirit of determination and the will to develop, no matter the starting point.
The logo embodies the balanced strength of both masculine and feminine energies, representing the power and equality of both. The stars serve as a reminder to always aim high — to reach for greatness — while also honouring those who came before us.
The gold symbolises success — both the achievements already earned and those still to come. White represents Te Ao Mārama, the world of light and potential, where knowledge and clarity live. The deep navy blue speaks to authority, professionalism, and the unwavering consistency we strive for in all that we do.
